The world-wide pandemic seems to be winding down (hopefully for good!), and we are beginning to return to some semblance of ‘normal’. The pandemic was undoubtedly very difficult, and because challenging experiences are often our best teachers, many of us have emerged from it stronger; perhaps that is the eternal optimist in me always looking for the good in people and situations! Here are a few of those lessons that can help us be better colleagues, business leaders, humans. Call it our “Post-Pandemic Keep-Doing List”.
Today, July 23, is International Women in Engineering Day. It's a day celebrated annually recognizing the work and achievement of women in engineering.
As of Monday, May 17, 2021, Melink Corporation kicked off a new healthy-hybrid working concept, where employees have reasonable flexibility to work remotely while also having some responsibility to work from the corporate campus in Cincinnati, OH. What you may not know, is as of March 2021, we’ve now gone through five different remote working strategies, pivoting nimbly as conditions changed and new information was constantly being presented. This would not have been made possible without an incredibly positive attitude from our staff and an adaptation to the use of new tools. One such tool that we began to use in late 2019, thankfully prior to the world changing, was Microsoft Teams.
Let’s have some real talk. Remember that dreaded question when you were a high school teenager: “What do you want to do when you grow up?” *Shudder* Maybe you had an answer prepared that delighted the person who asked which “lucky you”, swiftly ended the conversation. Or maybe you were like me and you stood there awkwardly for a few seconds while staring at your feet and mumbling something along the lines of “Uhhhh, I don’t know. Something that I like doing that helps make the world a better place… I guess.” Then you pretended like you heard your mom calling and scurried away hoping you hadn’t brought too much shame to yourself in what surely wasn’t your finest moment. No? Just me? Good! I wasn’t the only one.
Changing jobs has become more common over the years but especially this past year during the pandemic with the struggling economy. I had the opportunity to change both job and industry when I joined Melink Corporation in February of 2021. It has been an amazing learning adventure. First, I learned that a new industry requires me to understand many new acronyms to keep up with conversations. Melink “New Guy” credentials permit me to still be amazed and delighted with the products and technology that Melink offers, and I am still learning to communicate effectively in my new home away from home.
